 The Principal's Message

Back in 1981 whenever I had just qualified from University as a Primary School Teacher little did I know that an interview with Mr Harry Williams would result in me staying in Millisle for 34  years. He was looking for someone to cover a Maternity Leave for a Mrs Wendy Poxon. I thank you Wendy and Harry for giving me the most memorable experiences of my life.

I am part of a wonderful School which continues to evolve into a thriving, successful place of learning, affording children the opportunities to develop their full potential.

There are three main aspects of school-life which feature prominently in my years at Millisle Primary School.

First is the strong sense of Community which has always existed in the School. Children who come to us know, they are very much cherished and part of our term. Our school is known for its friendless and inclusiveness. The parental support for the school has always been phenomenal and the amounts raised by the FMPS & N Committee members have been staggering, for such a small community. The BOG members have also been very kind to us all, regularly donating large amounts of their own monies to help us purchase vital items for school –life.

The second is the commitment which all of the staff, past and present have shown towards the children and to each other, as new members arrive with us each year. The children experience fantastic lessons and participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities and class visits which all the teachers organise for them. Staff are most reluctant to move on to other schools, as you will read in our articles. The Principals of Millisle have also been most  influential  in peoples’ lives and there have been only four  in the last 50 years, Fred, Harry, Trevor and of course myself, this is testament to their happiness to teach in Millisle Primary School.

Thirdly are the children, who have come through the school, so talented in every curricular area. They perform in whatever way is asked of them ---- in Shows, Competitions, Tournaments, Festivals, DVDs,  Launches and all at such a high level. I watch with great pride at how well they are doing in their lives, they always have a smile for me and a big wave, it really warms my heart.
