The Nursery Unit opened in September 2002 and offers a full-time session to our Nursery children.  The purpose-built Nursery Unit is attractively  situated in the grounds of the Millisle Primary School.    The unit operates as an integral and important part of the school and shares the school's distinctive ethos of care and support for children.

Accommodation comprises of a large attractive playroom with adjacent reception area, quiet room, utility room, staffroom and toilet area. There is an outdside play area specifically for the use of the Nursery children, which consists of an all weather surface and a newly developed nature garden.

All the facilities of Millisle Primary School are available to the Nursery Unit.  This enables the children to become acquainted with the Primary School teachers and the environment.

Learning and Teaching

The nursery aims to provide a happy, secure and disciplined environment where children can develop emotionally, physically and intellectually at their own rates through challenging and progressive play. In the nursery the children feel secure and happy and will acquire knowledge, understanding, skills and positive values through their play.  An extensive range of learning material is available offering every child important and stimulating opportunities.  Parents are encouraged to play an active role in their child's education.

Inspection Report

The Nursery Unit received a most favourable Inspection Report in February 2017:

" The quality of the provision in the nursery unit is very good.  The observations of the children's learning are systematic and rigorous and ensure that individual learning needs are met effectively.  The quality of the staff's interactions is consistently very good; in particular, the staff extend the children's language, mathematical and thinking skills by listening and responding appropriately to their ideas.  The nursery team's capacity to review, implement change and bring about improvement in their practice is highly effective.
